18th Annual Hanohano Huki Ocean Challenge, Mission Beach, San Diego, Calif.: The unofficial start to the winter racing season and the SoCal Winter Racing Series kicks off with the Hanohano Huki Ocean Challenge, one of the biggest events of the year in Southern California, with paddlers of all ages, skills and crafts welcome. A Huki OC-1 and other great prizes will be up for grabs in the raffle and the event will offer complimentary VitaCoco, Sambazon, Gatorade, and water on-site. Event Page

The Painkiller Cup, Road Town, Tortola, BVI: Sponsored by the world-famous Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost Van Dyke, the event will see 3-person teams, which must include at least one woman, racing a 14-mile downwind course along Tortola’s north shore. 11th Annual Cold Hands Paddle, Cabrillo Beach, San Pedro, Calif.: The 11th Annual Cold Hands Paddle is a 4-mile course at the historic Port of Los Angeles, Cabrillo Beach and is free to the public. The event includes divisions for paddleboards and SUP’s, but dory boats, surf ski’s, kayaks, and OC’s are welcome to participate as well. The Great Swan River Paddle, Perth, West Aus., AUS: Participants will paddle approximately 2.8km east from Point Belches (small point on the south side of the river, about 250 metres east of The Narrows) to the tip of Heirisson Island and return to Point Belches for a 5.7km race. Surftech Shootout at The Lane, Steamer Lane, Santa Cruz, Calif.: The annual event is back with a new addition to the two days of racing, the Cowells SUP Classic paddle surf contest. The event will feature the highly anticipated Shootout, with some of the best paddlers in the world competing for thousands of dollars in prizes. Other races at the event include the 2.7-mile short course race, which finishes with a beach sprint, as well as the long distance race, which takes the paddlers on the same course as the short course with the addition of 3.7 miles after the beach sprint. Golden Nugget SUP Race, Red’s Ice House, Shem Creek, Mt. Pleasant, S.C.: The Golden Nugget Race will be split into a Short Course 5k and a Long Course 10k. The 5k will allow 12′ and under, 12’6 and 14ft, while the 10k allows 12’6″, 14′, over 14′ boards and traditional/prone. Both 5k and 10k will have a division for paddlers 50 + with board length- Open. The event is a relay race where teams paddle 100-150 yards on Aloha Sup boards around a buoy with a lei around their neck paddling back to their teammates, they pass the lei onto their teammate and off they go, until the last person on their team crosses the finish line. T-shirts will be provided to registered racers and the winners will get flower leis from Hawaii and take home the Hawaiian Lei Tiki Cup for the year. The winning team will get a cash prize of $100. Bottled water and snacks will be provided. Come and join in for a good cause, help our 4-legged friends and have fun on the water!

    The TC Waterman Challenge and Expo is the Midwest’s largest and premier Stand Up Paddle (SUP) event. This SUP festival and Midwest’s largest SUP exposition include recreational and elite races for all ages and skill levels, free product demonstrations, free clinics, free kids races, and the Awards Luau Dinner, presented by Maui Jim, for all participants.
