They say you can’t judge a book by it’s cover, but people don’t always heed their advice. A cover is the first impression—the “hook,” so to speak—an opportunity to convey the content of a book in one impactful image. That’s why we were so stoked to have discovered the cover shot for our new Gear Guide, compliments of Canadian adventure photographer John Rathwell. Rathwell snagged the candid moment during a SUP surfing/camping expedition on the remote western coast of Vancouver Island—an image and a story that suit the premise of our Gear Guide (extreme adventure) swimmingly. In this SUP mag edit, Rathwell shares his special story of how the shot came to be. Enjoy his anecdotes, then grab your copy of the Gear Guide for more awesome adventure SUP content and images.
