Industry News: Paddle Royal Announces $20k In Cash Prizes

The largest SUP race in the Caribbean is back with $20,000 in cash prizes. Paddle Royal, scheduled for Dec. 1st – 2nd, will once again be held in San Juan, Puerto Rico, with heavy hitters expected to compete as well as a whole host of international recreational racers.
Paddle Royal will feature an 8-mile “Badass” race, a 3-miler for the “Weekend Warrior,” as well as sprints, kids races and the start of the BIC Wing One-Design Series. Five racing classes will be offered with multiple gender and age divisions, although each division must have at least 5 registered competitors to be considered.
New to the fifth annual race is PR SUP Week, which will be two weeks of SUP fun and festivities anchored around the Paddle Royal weekend. Paddlers can take part in clinics, go on SUP tours around Puerto Rico, try out new gear and equipment, and paddlesurf. BIC’s Wing One-Design Series kicks off amidst SUP Week, showcasing competitors’ skills, technique and strength as the playing field will be level with competitors racing the same board, the BIC 12’6 Wing. The series will continue throughout 2013 and be held in various locations across North America with courses around a 1/2-mile long to attract the recreational paddler.
