(Georgetown, DC) – The Watermans Paddle for Humanity (PFH) is heading to Georgetown for the fourth stop of the 2012 series. The family-friendly event will also serve as the Mid-Atlantic Region 6 National Qualifier for the World Paddle Association and winners will earn entry into September’s World Championships in Cabo San Lucas. The PFH has generated $48,000 in support of humanitarian causes, including the Navy SEAL Foundation.
The success of the series has been inspirational for all involved. “It has been a moving experience to see the local paddling communities coming together around a common cause,” said Race Director, Pete Stirling. Participants choose between over ten different non-profit organizations to receive 20% of their registration fee. Since April the PFH has generated $48,000.
The Watermans Paddle for Humanity is an event that caters to paddlers of all ages and skill levels. The fourth of five stops in the national tour will feature a 5K and 10K paddle. Both events will be the Mid-Atlantic Region 6 National Qualifiers for the World Paddle Association and winners of each event will earn entry into September’s World Championships in Cabo San Lucas.
New for 2012, the Chuck Patterson Rally, affectionately called the CPR by fans, is a spectator-friendly event that promises to challenge the bodies and minds of competitors. The format of the CPR is unique to each location and promises to keep participants and spectators on their toes.
The DC event will feature a Friday afternoon paddle clinic with Watermans’ Slater Trout and Infinity Surf’s Dave Boehne, hosted by LiftSUP, at the Washington Canoe Club. The clinic will be followed by a social paddle and happy hour on the dock. Kona Brewing Company will host the pre-event party, pre-registration and bag pick up Friday night on the Sequoia Restaurant deck.
