People Who SUP
SUP magazine caught up with five people who SUP to talk standup paddling. We asked the five everyday paddlers to name a piece of gear that they lust after. Here’s what they said:
OCCUPATION: Owner, Downunder SUP Shop
HOMETOWN: Fayetteville, CT
I try to get everything that I lust after, so let me think (laughs). It would be the Ocean Rodeo drysuit. It’s really awesome. We’re coldwater paddling here in the winter so I’d wear it from December to March.
OCCUPATION: Owner, No Coast SUP
HOMETOWN: Des Moines, IA
What I was lusting just came in: a custom Badfish River Surfer. They’re doing a run of customs this year and I got number two. They’re so fun, especially on little waves around here. It’ll also work on the big daddy whitewater park waves too.
OCCUPATION: Owner/Operator, Thorfinn Expeditions
HOMETOWN: Bar Harbor, ME
An unlimited downwind board. In our neck of the woods we could use a 17-18-foot open ocean board with a rudder. I paddle a lot of bigger water that’s exposed and cold like Newfoundland. It opens up opportunities that other boards don’t give you.
OCCUPATION: Owner, Austin Paddlesports
HOMETOWN: Austin, TX
A travel-sized race board that’s ding-proof!
OCCUPATION: Owner, Nola Paddleboards/EMT
HOMETOWN: New Orleans, LA
A quality amphibious board/paddle that people who live by the coast could use to ride down the street to their break or waterway of choice, then enter the water and paddle away without having to leave any gear back on the shoreline.
