Roto-ed Rec Revolution?

Board showcase: Imagine Stand Up 11
Last year, Imagine Surfboards president Corran Addison released the Stand Up 12, a 35-pound roto-molded recycled plastic board with a dry storage compartment and deck rigging. This year, the outspoken South African board-shaping paddlesports guru continues honing in on the market for durable plastic boards designed with flatwater touring in mind that make few sacrifices in performance (and come in at under a grand).

The word from Corran:
The Stand Up 11 differs from the 10- and 12-foot versions in that we made a few small but critical changes to the way we make the board to take it to that next level. The board performs much in the same way as the Stand Up 10, with that little extra speed you get from the added length.

The first change is that instead of using the twin-layer sandwich construction of the other two boards, this uses a triple-layer sandwich making it that little bit stronger. Then the hatch rims are molded right into the board, so no extra parts are screwed on, which, if not done with the same attention to detail that we use, could ultimately leak over time. The hatch covers are rubberized urethane so you get a perfect seal. The front hatch is also much larger so you have that extra access to the inside for storage of your gear.
The bow bungee is replaced with a elastic netting, making it easier to keep odds and ends on board, and finally, a skid plate has been added to the keel so you can drag your board around without fear of wearing through the plastic. An optional fin can attach to this skid plate for extra tracking and speed. Also, deck fittings for an optional kayak seat attachment are standard (11’ x 33.5” x 9”, $912, imaginesurfboards.com).
