Standup for the Cure was held Saturday, May 5 in Newport Beach, Calif. with an astounding 700 participants throughout the day, spreading awareness for breast cancer and fundraising for Susan G. Komen Orange County.

Downwinders and SUP-style triathlons. The final day of the Quiksilver Waterman Collection Waikiki Paddle Festival was a goodie, concluding with the 10-mile Hawaii Kai downwind distance paddle, and the saltwater triathlon Waterman Challenge.

Sunday morning a 15-year-old girl was standup paddling off the coast of Catalina Island when her board was bitten several times by a shark.

This year’s Quiksilver Waikiki Paddle Festival at Duke Kahanamoku Beach in Honolulu was a mix of old and new.

At 5:45 pm on April 28 Heather Bonser-Bishop, 39, was standup paddling on the Chetco River in southern Oregon when her surf leash caught on a submerged snag causing her to fall and be held under water. She drowned shortly thereafter.
