‘A Stand UP Paddle Movie’ Goes on Display

It ain’t just another SUP movie. A Stand Up Paddle Movie,” by Southern California photographer and videographer Jeff Vasquez, is a documentary that captures and explores the growing world of standup paddling. And if you’re in the Dana Point area this weekend for the Rainbow Sandals Gerry Lopez Battle of the Paddle, this is your chance to see it.

In the hour-long film, Vasquez profiles top standup paddlers in three disciplines, including paddle surfing, open ocean racing and circuit racing. Shot on location in Hawaii and California, Vasquez follows heavy-hitters including Dave Kalama, Jamie Mitchell, Candice Appleby, Danny Ching, Brandi Baksic, Aaron and Riggs Napoleon, Slater Trout, Ekolu Kalama, Jenny Kalmbach and more. The documentary also highlights the biggest events in the SUP industry, including the Rainbow Sandals Gerry Lopez Battle of the Paddle, the Molokai to Oahu Race and Sunset Pro to name a few. – Shari Coble
