27 NORTH RIDERS FINISH ON TOP AT US SUP TOUR
27 North SUP riders Kieran Grant, Fisher Grant, and Nick Ventresca swept the top three positions at the first stop of the 2014 US SUP Tour held in Huntington Beach, California, March 22 – 23. Kieran took first place while Fisher came in second, and Jupiter, Fla. resident Nick Ventresca placed third. The event is the initial kick off of a three part sequence for what will be the main qualifying series for athletes to get on the USA SUP team for the International Surfing Association (ISA) games. The second stop of the 2014 US SUP Tour will be held in San Diego, Calif. in June and the third and last event of the US SUP Tour will be held in October, also in California.
The 27 North SUP team sent out four riders to compete in both men’s pro and men’s open divisions to gain valuable heat time in the young 2014 season. Josh Riccio, Fisher Grant, and Nick Ventresca advanced to the quarterfinal round of the men’s pro, while Kieran Grant advanced to the semifinal round. Team 27 North rider Josh Riccio proved to be a double threat placing fifth overall in the men’s pro race. Josh is a standout in this year’s circuit and is one of the top SUP racers in the world.
“With the equipment we are providing Josh and his level of dedication, 2014 will prove to be a breakout year for Josh Riccio,” states, Mike McGann, President of 27 North. “We are thrilled for our riders and the level of commitment they each posses. The feedback on our pro kevlar surf paddle has been extremely positive and the results are starting to show,” added McGann.
“We are excited to be sponsored by 27 North and have had a great deal of success using their Kevlar paddle. Compared to the competition, the 27 North paddle is indestructible. We never have to worry about equipment failure. We have both been using the 27 North Kevlar paddle for over a year and it hasn’t broken yet,” states Kieran and Fisher Grant.
