Antrim Class 40Desolation Outdoors and Antrim Associates Naval Architects Announce New Design Partnership

San Francisco, CA – Northern California based standup paddleboard manufacturer Desolation Outdoors: Paddle & Skate has announced a strategic partnership with leading Naval Architect Jim Antrim of Antrim Associates, a prevalent yacht design firm specializing in high performance sailing yachts based in San Francisco.

Over the course of the 2015/2016 winter, both parties will work to design a series of Antrim Design 12'6" and 14' racing specific standup paddleboards that will make a statement on the race course. Design of the boards has already begun and prototyping is underway in Northern California. Production boards are expected to be available for purchase and delivery in late Spring of 2016. Expect these Antrim Design Desolation SUPs to be ultralight, very durable and designed to take the podium with ease.

Desolation Outdoors designs all of their carbon fiber standup paddleboards in the San Francisco Bay Area. The e-commerce company offers free and fast shipping as well as free returns, a 60-day money back guarantee and a 2-year warranty on all the boards – a proposition of value virtually unheard of in the SUP industry. "We pride ourselves on craftsmanship, value and a close relationship with our customers," comments Torben Yjord-Jackson, the company's founder & CEO.

Jim Antrim carries one of the most diverse portfolios in the yacht design industry. Antrim designs course record breaking multihull and monohull sailboats, an electric powered trimaran, and a trans-atlantic rowboat. Production boats include the popular Ultimate 20 and the Antrim 27. Antrim's varied custom design portfolio includes a wing sail-assisted motor catamaran and a solar powered unmanned electric craft. Antrim is also renowned for his composite engineering skills. He is the creator of the “PBJ” sandwich/laminate engineering analysis and also developed custom laminate engineering software for Knytex (now owned by Hexcel). Antrim did design engineering for the America3 syndicate for their successful defense of the America's Cup in 1992, and for numerous other projects both in and out of the marine industry.

"My primary interest is always in making the best product. I just want to make some kickass boards that win races. The Desolation Outdoors concept just feels right to me: fun and interesting for us both," Antrim commented.
