Devil’s Isle Challenge 2017 | New Format Announced
You’ve heard whispers that there’s something totally new coming to SUP for the Devil’s Isle Challenge 2017 hosted by Plastic Tides.
This is it.
Introducing the MVP Relay.
The Multi Vessel Performance Relay is unlike any other race in the world.
There’s only one rule. Four people per team.
Each team will have four paddlers, one support boat, and as many different types of boards as they want.
That includes foilboards.
Bermuda is 38 miles around with a wide range of conditions. Paddling on one board isn’t ideal. The MVP Relay is the solution and introduces an element of strategy seen nowhere else. For brands this is an opportunity to showcase the latest and greatest. Who’s team and quiver will have the depth to take on the Devil’s Isle?
Imagine a relay race where you’re able to swap out your paddlers and equipment based on the changing conditions. You can take on the north shore of Devil’s Isle on your fastest, sleekest flatwater board, switching paddlers as often as you wish to keep your team fresh. Rounding Fort St. Catherine into the infamous chop of St. David’s Head, you trade boards for something more stable. With Castle Roads behind you, the team pulls out the downwind board to charge the open ocean swell of the south shore, then when the wind picks up enough, you change up to a foilboard. After 38 miles of intense competition, teams will battle it out in a 200-yard sprint to the finish. Nothing is off limits, so expect anything. This is what it is to be truly “unlimited.”
With this revolutionary new race format, the competition won’t be the only thing that’s high. Start off the 2017 season right by vying for one of the largest prize purses of the year.
Plastic Tides is sponsoring accommodations for the first five pro teams to confirm participation, so don’t wait to register! Don’t have enough pros to fill your squad? Here’s an opportunity to find new talent. It’s up to your best weekend warriors to answer the call.
Sign up early and help us fight plastic pollution, get Bermuda’s youth out on the water, and ultimately inspire the next generation of ocean guardians.
