Hennessey’s and the World Paddle Association (WPA) crowned the 2013 Standup Paddle World Champions Fernando Stalla and Kristin Thomas last weekend. Fernando now holds back-to-back World Championship Titles, also winning in 2012. Participants competed in both Elite and Open divisions on Saturday, September 21st at Lake Las Vegas in Nevada. Fernando Stalla took the overall win, followed by Leou On Eric in second, and the WPA’s Byron Kurt took third. Kristin Thomas also paddled to victory, with Betsy Risner finishing second and Ruth Vesler in third.

Thomas Maximus landed a first place overall finish in the Pro Long Course and also had a strong finish in the Pro SUP Slalom Race. Scott Diederich won the Open Race overall with Robin Jacobsen finishing as the first female across the line.

A prize purse of $15,000 was up for grabs this year, along with a grand raffle prize package trip to the 2013 Bora Bora Liquid Festival in December, worth $5,600. Congratulations to raffle winner Ruth Vesler.
The World Championships were capped off by a fabulous street party and awards banquet hosted by Hennessey’s in the heart of Old Las Vegas on Fremont Street.
