Team SIC’s Lina Augaitis Takes Gold in Nicaragua
GRANADA, Nicaragua–At the ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championships this past weekend, team SIC‘s Lina Augaitis won Gold in Nicaragua on her production X 12 PRO over a stacked field of competitors. Lina finished in 26:48 and defeated the ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championships 2013 Gold Medalist, Shakira Westdorp from Australia who finished in 27:01.
Lina was in great form from start to finish but really took control of the race when the pack hit the downwind leg. “The distance race was a beautiful point-to-point course with variety,” said Lina. “We experienced, head wind, side wind, flat water and downwind … It was a tough battle with Shakira from Australia for most of the race but once the race opened up I was able to get away on the downwind section with the amazing glides from the XPRO and then push hard all the way to the finish with a strong side/head wind. Super stoked to have won for Canada, for SIC and for all the fans!”
This is Lina’s second 1st place finish in 2 days. On day one, Lina finished 1st in heat race #1 on the X 12 PRO and her teammate Laura Quiglitas finished first on her X 12 PRO in heat #2.
At SIC, we are stoked on the successes of our athletes and are so proud to have such an awesome crew representing our brand. We look forward to seeing Lina compete in the future and continuing to make us proud.
