While most of the paddling world will be focused on Southern California this week, let us not forget about the right coast where Three Bays Preservation, Inc., will host the first Paddle for the Bays: RACE Cape Cod on September 24.
“The RACE,” is an event designed for all levels of paddlers and kayakers. Races include a 5-mile race for those aged 16+ and a shorter youth race for paddlers under 16. All events will begin at the Wianno Yacht Club in Osterville.
Participants in the Open and Senior (55+) race will compete on all three bays in the town of Barnstable. The course will begin in West Bay and will take paddlers up to North Bay, then down to the Cotuit Bay and back through West Bay to the finish. Kids participating in the youth race will compete on a course within 3,000 feet of West Bay for a short, but challenging race.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the top male and female paddler and kayaker in each race who has won the title of “The Best on Cape Cod.” Following the races will be an awards luncheon to be held at the Nauticus Marina. – Shari Coble
