The 5th Annual Cold Stroke Classic will be held this Saturday, Jan. 19, at Blockade-Runner Beach Resort in Wrightsville Beach, N.C. Offering elite, sprint and recreational races, as well as a paddle clinic and over $6k in prizes, this event surely won’t disappoint.
The event kicks off on Friday, with a paddle clinic led by elite all-around paddler Dan Gavere. The clinic will focus on stroke technique and race approaches, with a special seminar on skills including the choke down stroke, the bow draw, and paddling in rough conditions.
Competitive events begin Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. with elite and recreational paddlers competing on the same course. Competitors will start and finish at the Blockade-Runner Beach Resort, with the entire course held on the flat waters of the Intracoastal Waterway. Elite racers will paddle two laps for a total of 7 miles, while recreational paddlers will complete one 3.5-mile lap. The event is open to SUP, prone paddleboard, surfskis and OC’s (unlimited), with proceeds benefitting SUP Cleanup.
