(San Clemente, Calif.) – In an effort to bring the finest awards production possible to the sport of standup paddling, SUP magazine announced today it’s teamed with Santa Barbara-based adventure brand Teva ® to host the inaugural SUP Awards at the Casino San Clemente in San Clemente, Calif., Thursday evening, September 22, 2011.
“Teva has a rich history of performance in and around water. When the opportunity came about to further support the SUP community through the first Awards event, we jumped on it,” says Will Pennartz, Teva Lifestyle Marketing Manager. “Playing a part in this ground-breaking event is truly an honor.”
Built in the Spanish style, the historic Casino San Clemente at State Park, just north of the famous Trestles surf break, was the site of the early SURFER Poll award shows and has entertained numerous Hollywood icons like Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland. The SUP Awards show is two days before the Rainbow Sandals Gerry Lopez Battle of the Paddle, one of the most prestigious races in standup, ensuring attendance by the sport’s biggest players.
“We’re extremely happy with the location and timing of the SUP Awards Show, presented by Teva,” says SUP magazine Publisher Jim Marsh. “We’re throwing down the red carpet in order to celebrate standup in a way that hasn’t happened before.”

Winners-along with the recipient of the SUP Awards’ Lifetime Achievement honor-will be announced during the SUP Awards show the evening of Thursday, September 22, 2011 at the Casino San Clemente. In attendance will be the sport’s most recognized athletes, top SUP industry executives, national media, and guest celebrities.
