The long-awaited Surf Race to Victory SUPCross Championships is finally here. On Saturday, September 15, the 5-event Surf Race to Victory SUPCross Series will culminate in Huntington Beach, Calif. before a beach full of competitors and spectators.
After competing in the first four events of the series, paddlers will once again race in heats on a V-shaped buoy course that takes them in and out through the surf multiple times. The previous events held in Southern California and Utah featured similar buoy courses that tested competitors’ strength and skills in difficult conditions, and competitors should expect nothing less in Surf City, as last year’s inaugural event saw lots of excitement and carnage throughout the day.
In the Huntington Beach Championship event, racers will have to fight their way to the final heat and cash prizes in the knockout format. Racers that don’t finish in the top places will be given a second chance at making the final in a repechage heat. Double points will be awarded throughout the day and the final awards ceremony will be held at Surfers’ Walk of Fame on Main Street. After the awards, the event continues at Duke’s restaurant with a Hinano fashion show and after party. – SC
