Ben Thouard is a surf and ocean photographer with a larger-than-life reputation. He grew up in the south of France where the waves are small. His father was a sailor and taught him everything about the ocean. Coached by his older brothers, he fell in love with surfing and spent as much time as possible in the ocean.
Thouard discovered photography at age 15 and after learning the basics in his home of Toulon, France, he studied photography in Paris before traveling to Hawaii and shooting the surf scene there. In the years following, Thouard traveled the world alongside professional surfers in search of photogenic landscapes and waves that have never been surfed before.
At 22, Thouard moved to Tahiti and quickly made Teahupoo’s famous wave his backyard and favorite place to shoot.
In recent years Thouard has become cemented in the league of leading photographers based in the tropical paradise of French Polynesia. Magazine covers, advertising campaigns, award-winning images from the water and around it has lead to global success and acknowledgment from his peers and many happy clients worldwide.
