Fantastic Conditions for the US SUP Tour, Trestles Stop

Sometimes, in the midst of the madness of event organization, all the elements come together. The US SUP Tour this weekend at Trestles had everything: great weather, contestable waves and some of the best competitors in the world showcasing standup paddling at it’s finest.

“When it all works out, it’s nice to just sit back and enjoy it for a minute,” said organizer Ian Cairns who barely had a minute to enjoy it while trying to take care of judges, competitors shuttles and all that goes into a world-class event.

Saturday, Fernando Stalla and Halie Harrison opened up action with wins in a hotly contested surf race. Matt Becker and Slater Trout finished 2nd and 3rd while Lucy Bell and Tamara Lentz finished second and third on the women’s side.

Father’s Day Sunday saw great waves at Church for the surf event where Sean Poynter won the men’s competition and Emmy Merrill finished atop the women’s podium, taking her second consecutive US SUP Tour victory. Halie Harrison capped a stellar weekend, finishing third in the women’s comp while Candice Appleby finished second making her first return to competition after surgery on her hand. Tommy Lloy ended in second for the men while Mo Freitas ended third.
