Each summer, standup paddlers anxiously await the two days of intense racing at the NAISH Columbia Gorge Paddle Challenge in Hood River, Ore. This year’s event was one for the books, with a huge turnout of competitors, big wins, and unexpected upsets.
Fiona Wylde and Kody Kerbox were named the overall champions after an awesome weekend of racing by both athletes. Saturday’s downwind race had an impressive field of paddlers, with Kerbox taking the overall win and Wylde placing second to the ‘Downwind Queen,’ Andrea Moller. On Sunday, the participants were back at it with sprint racing, where Kerbox and 2x event champion Candice Appleby took down the competition. Points from both days’ events were combined, and in the end, 16-year-old Wylde and 19-year-old Kerbox finished on top.
