About

SUP magazine created the SUP Awards as standup paddling’s top honor, recognizing the absolute best that this sport has to offer. Our editorial staff tediously collects nominations from readers and fans over the first half of the year. Now it’s up to YOU to rank standup’s Top 3 Male Paddlers, Top 3 Female Paddlers, Movie of the Year, Top Expedition and Top Philanthropic Effort. SUP magazine also presents the Lifetime Achievement Award, given to a legend who has invigorated the sport, as the voting culminates in September. Honorees will be presented at the SUP Awards show Thursday, October 2, 2014 at the historic Casino San Clemente and is an invite-only event.

Where are the Aussie racing chicks in the nominations? There’s 2 girls who’ve been smashing it on the international and local stages during 2012 and deserve to be on that list, without relying on results from 2009/2010/2011 to keep them there!
Angela Van Hoof Jackson won 2 individual Silver medals (Technical and Long Distance races) at the 2012 ISA World Championships, placed 4th in the Survivor Sup race and 2nd in the 12’6 class distance race at the Waikiki Paddle Festival and at home has won the 12’6 class at the Creek to Creek race (Australia’s biggest SUP race to date) and recently took out the Queensland State Title Technical (Surf) Race.
Terrene Black (in her debut international race) got 5th in the Survivor Sup Race and 2nd in the 14′ class (4th overall) distance race at the Waikiki Paddle Festival and 4th in the Olukai Race. At home she’s placed 2nd in The Doctor Race, won the 12 Towers Race and has won the NSW State Titles in both the Technical (Surf) Race and the Long Distance Race.
That’s just their results from the first half of 2012! I’ll place my vote when the nominees are updated to include ALL the girls who deserve to be on that list.
