Table Rock Lake: Urban Paddle Guide
Over 800 miles of shoreline greet me each day in my small lake town of Kimberling City on the expansive Table Rock Lake. Covering more than 43,000 acres, this is a man-made lake in Missouri is where me and my SUP call home.
I’m a self-proclaimed fresh-water mermaid in the heart of the Midwest that offers so many stroke-worthy waterways for the explorer within us all. My local put-in is Moonshine Beach: the area’s only sandy beach. But you won’t find any moonshine-makers here anymore. During the Fourth of July, the area puts on on a wicked-cool fireworks show that I love to strap on my LED Nocqua underwater lights and my headlamp and paddle out for.
Stay at one of the numerous lakefront rental cabins like my favorite, Lighthouse Lodge. Tell Roger the mermaid sent you and you’ll get a room where can walk to the water, toss your SUP in and get your daily dose of Vitamin D atop glassy, calm, hidden cove waters protected by the different fingers of land.
If it’s too far to bring your own SUP, you can rent from Williams Bros. Ski and Sports at the Port of Kimberling Marina. It’s your one-stop, on-the-water shop where you’re most likely to find yours truly teaching classes and running SUP adventures and lessons almost everyday of the summer.
For me, it’s all about bringing my coffee cup out on the water. I’ve developed my own little on-the-water coffee shop called “SUP and a CUP.’ I invite SUP enthusiasts to join me and BYOM (Bring Your Own Mug) as we paddle out to a nice quiet cove. We sit on our SUPs, chatting about life and solving the world’s problems. When our mugs are finally empty, we paddle back.
Make plans to come find me on the water here this summer. Bring your SUP, bring your mug and bring your sense of adventure!
