The South African big wave champion has balls, that’s no lie. Twiggy got a win at the Maverick’s big wave contest in 2006, was the first champion at the Red Bull Big Wave Africa and has won multiple titles at Billabong’s XXL Awards- Best Overall Performance, Biggest Wave and Ride of the Year. After a knee surgery in 2010, Twig decided to try out standup paddling for rehabilitation and was featured in our Winter Issue exploring Madagascar. “Never say never!” he wrote in a recent e-mail about standup. We’re thinking he’s pretty into it. Check him out, duel threat, learning to rip with a paddle and pulling into some absolute drainers on his traditional ride. – Shari Coble
