The Ganges River is one one of the most revered bodies of water in the world. Every few years Hindus from around India gather along its banks and wash in its waters for the Kumbh Mela, the largest human gathering on earth. The event drew an estimated 100 million pilgrims in 2013.
We sent Ryan Salm and crew to the festival and then on to the Ganges itself for a trip from Allahabad to Varanasi, a distance of about 130 miles. Salm returned with a great story and pictures for our Gear Guide. But, funds are short and the footage from the journey has yet to see the light of day. They’ve dubbed the project “Kharma Bums.” The team is raising money for expenses such as editing, design and festival fees. You can get more information and help them out over at Indiegogo.
