SUWT: La Torche Pro Kicks Off

The Standup World Tour’s final event of the 2014 season, La Torche Pro, kicked off over the weekend with the Trials event and a new addition to the last stop of the year, the City Race. With thousands of spectators lining the cliffs at France’s Pointe de la Torche, the Trials event saw eight locals SUP surf their way into the Main Event, which began today.

Competitors saw perfect conditions and sunny skies during the Trials event, as France's Pierre Girardeau pulled out all the moves in the final heat to take the win over second place Arthur Arutkin, third place Omri Hazor of Israel, and fourth place Sebastien Maubourguet. In addition to the top four from the Trials finals, Nicolas Walker, Arthur Daniel, Philippe Mesmeur and Alexandre Rouys will also advance to the Main event, where they will battle with the 2014 World Title contenders. Check out the Trials highlights above.

The City Race, a 20-kilometer race on the River Odet, started in Sainte Marine and took competitors to the town of Quimper, where Gaeten Sene took the win ahead of Arthur Arutkin and Greg Closier. The City Race also included sprint races and demos to highlight the accessibility of SUP to all. Watch highlights from the City Race below.
