Fuel your pre- and post-paddle metabolism with this banana protein smoothie

When eating to fuel an active lifestyle like that of standup paddling, it’s always best to know exactly what you’re putting in your body. Maryland’s premier SUP rental and training company, Capital SUP, highlights the importance of fueling properly pre-paddle, as the three co-owners—Brian Meyer, Chris Norman, and Kevin Haigis—compete in SUP events regularly in addition to teaching and training others. The Capital SUP trio recently shared some recipes they prepare together to keep their bodies fueled for paddling mid-week and prepared for races or intense training sessions. Now, they’re sharing a simple, but satisfying, protein shake to help fuel you properly for your workout or post-paddle recovery. —Shari Coble

So, you just finished your training session or race, and, you need to fuel your tank. It's important for the body to intake nutrients 30 to 60 minutes after you workout because exercise or increased activity leaves the metabolism running at a higher rate than normal and requires nutrients to begin the recovery process. This nutritious protein shake is an easy, quick and scrumptious option for the post-paddle munchies that’ll support your bustling metabolism.

• 10 to 12oz milk of choice
• 1 Banana
• 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
• 1 scoop/packet of UB Super Protein Superfood Nutritional Shake Vanilla
• Handful of ice

Combine all ingredients in a blender, then blend until smooth. Add additional ice for a thicker shake.
