As we near Thanksgiving— the national day of eating— there are lots of events to participate in to help you justify your overindulgent eat-a-thon. This Saturday, HDX encourages paddlers around the world to standup paddle for Diabetes awareness, North Carolina hosts the annual Surf to Sound Challenge and Big Island holds its largest SUP race. And for those of you who don’t celebrate the coming together of pilgrims and indians, there are races from Auckland to Rio, so get out on the water this weekend and compete at one of the following events:

HDX Stands Up For Diabetes During National Diabetes Month

Get out on the water wherever you may be on Nov. 17 to bring attention and awareness to the disease affecting millions of Americans. There are 18.8 million Americans living with Diabetes and by paddling on Nov. 17, you will help promote healthy living while bringing awareness to Diabetes.

NC Surf to Sound Challenge

Wrightsville, North Carolina
A WPA-sanctioned event that takes paddlers through Masonboro Inlet, then through the channel on the backside of Masonboro Island. Paddlers can compete on multiple courses, including a 6.5-mile elite race, 4-mile open race and kids races where kids under 12 race free. The event will also feature an expo and elite paddler Dan Gavere will be on-site for lessons and an ASI certification course. Proceeds from the event to benefit FOR Masonboro and Friends of the Reserve.

Hulakai Race to Fitness Series Race #2

Hilo Bay, Big Island, HI
Race SUP, OC-1 or OC-2 in Big Island's largest Paddle to Fitness event. Paddlers will take off from Richardson and race to Hilo Bay. A shuttle will be provided to the starting line for competitors that need rides.

Ocean Addicts Power of the Paddle

Sunshine Coast, AUS
A BOP-style race held in conjunction with the Golden Days Music Festival in Coolum. Competitors will have to place in top spots to move on to Heat 2 and be eligible for prizes. If racing isn't your thing, there will also be a SUP surf contest with great cash prizes.

Australian Gold SUP Cup

Rio De Janeiro, Brazil
Two fun races and a competitive race offered at the Australian Gold SUP Cup in Rio. Paddlers can race in a 1.5 km or 3km race for fun or get competitive and race in the 6km race.
