Race The Lake of The Sky | Video And Recap
The Lake of the Sky. A fantastically apt nickname for a lake, indeed, of the sky--elevation 6,225 feet to be exact. Lake Tahoe. Breathe it in. That piney, crystal cool oasis straddling the California-Nevada line high in the Sierra’s, America’s second deepest lake and arguably among its most beautiful. It’s an idyllic place for a race, and hence, Race the Lake of the Sky is an idyllic race.
But last weekend’s Race the Lake of the Sky event is more than it’s name connotes. It’s a full-on SUP festival, featuring a 5-mile race, a 14.4-mile elite race, SUPCROSS, SUP high jump, SUP limbo and even a “sweet moves” competition. The span of the SUP community was there, including a few of the world’s elite.
Among the highlights, two of racing’s best--Danny Ching and Annabel Anderson--claimed victories, both sweeping titles in the 5-mile El Dorado race and the longer elite race. Australia’s Kelly Margetts came in second in the men’s elite race, and on the women’s side, rising star Shae Foudy finished just six seconds behind Anderson. SUPCROSS was another highlight, with carnage upholding the entertainment in true SUPCROSS fashion.
All in all, it was everything we’d hoped it could be and more.
