Euro Tour | Scenic Highlights From Crete, Greece
The 2017 Euro Tour recently kicked off on the picturesque Greek island of Crete.
Turquoise waters, stunning coastline, and the quaint little town of Agios Nikolaos set the scene for the highly-anticipated season-opener, with many of Europe’s top SUP racers eager to get their season started.
While the two-day event was filled with family-fun activities such as the 22′ SUP Dragon races, the main event was a 15-kilometer elite distance race. The initial two-thirds of the race flew by in whipping downwind conditions, however, a 25 knot headwind during the final five kilometers would test the paddlers’ endurance.
For the women, it was New Zealand’s Penelope Strickland who put on a dominant performance with Italian Susak Molinero finishing runner-up. On the men’s side, Leonard Nika put forth a similarly commanding effort to defeat Italian Paolo Marconi and a whole host of talented athletes.
Check out a few highlights above and revel in the beautiful coastal scenery that makes Crete, Greece one of the most beautiful SUP destinations in the world.
