Travis Grant and Sonni Hönscheid Gain Early Leads in Europe’s New Tour

In case you haven’t noticed from all the social media hype and digital banter, the Euro Tour—a new, unified collection of Europe’s biggest SUP races—is now officially underway. It began May 23 with the first race in Port Adriano, Spain, where Australian speed freak Travis Grant found his second major victory of the season (his first was at the Carolina Cup) ahead of runner-up and OluKai Ho’o victor, Connor Baxter.

Meanwhile, Germany’s Sonni Hönscheid left no room for surprise by dominating all who attempted the 13 kilometer course on the women’s side of the event. While Hönscheid was the only internationally-touring, world-class competitor in the women’s race (the others will likely join her at next week’s event in France), she took down the locals and finished 12th overall, beating the majority of the men and establishing herself as the female to beat in Europe.

Stay tuned to for coverage as the Euro Tour heads into its second stop, to be held May 30 in St. Maxime, France.
