Despite an early morning drizzle and slight wind, over 200 standup paddlers joined surfski, kayak and outrigger racers to compete in Saturday's Hal Rosoff Classic at Newport Aquatic Center in Newport Beach, Calif.

Standup paddlers raced the short course, a 5.5-mile loop from Back Bay into Newport Harbor and around Lido Island. Paddling phenomenon, Danny Ching, took the overall SUP win in the unlimited class with seasoned racer Jimmy Terrell in a close second and Thomas Shahinian finishing in third. In the 14' class, Kevin Nerison finished first, just ahead of Byron Kurt and Karl Ring. Rami Zur won the competitive stock class with Brian Murphy and Bruce Brunson trailing in second and third.

On the women's side, Suzy Strazzulla battled it out with Robyn Benincasa for the win in the 14' class. Defending champion, Kristin Thomas, won the women's stock class with Terry Plunkett and Atoinette Cocco taking second and third places.
