Werner Paddles Announces 2016 Healthy Waters Program
As 2015 marked the 50th anniversary of the first handcrafted Werner Paddle, we were certain to invite all of our friends, dealers, athletes and customers to celebrate with us. For without your support, our success for 5 decades would not be possible. But an even more intricate level are those that protect the places that we paddle. For no matter how passionate we are as paddlers, or how wonderful a craft or paddle performs, without access to the water there would be no paddling. So with that we are proud to anounce that for the 2016 season we will continue on with our Healthy Waters program, giving back to those that make paddling possible for all of us.
Over the years, because we get so many donation requests that are worthy, it has made it hard to say no to one and not another. With that said, with help from our staff, friends and dealers, we chose several organizations to focus our charitable giving towards. Each of these not for profit organizations protect the places we paddle, some in different ways and different regions, but all with the goal of allowing all of us to continue to paddle. Have a look to see who the cast is for 2016 and learn more about each. Werner Paddles HEALTHY WATERS partners 2016.
Along with many long standing partners that you have read about, like American Whitewater and American Rivers, we welcome 2 new environmental organizations for 2016.
- The Standup4Greatbear Society was born from a 2010 conservation standup paddle by Norm Hann along the proposed oil tanker route. The society now promotes the education, awareness, and protection of the Great Bear Rainforest through conservation expeditions, featured talks and school presentations. We support environmental, educational and youth related projects in the Great Bear Rainforest.
- Rivers for Change is a nonprofit made up of a passionate group of river enthusiasts dedicated to changing the way people think about and interact with water. Through adventure, conservation and education we work to connect individuals and communities to rivers and promote source to sea literacy.
We have also chosen to continue to support two agencies that protect paddling in quite a different way than their environmental counterparts.
- Founded in 2007, Heroes on the Water helps warriors of the U.S. armed forces get back to life after military service. Through kayak fishing trips, they decompress, reconnect, and find a place to belong. With 62 chapters hosting recurring events, HOW is healing mental and physical scars of those who serve our country.
- Founded in 2004, Team River Runner promotes health and healing of wounded veterans through adaptive paddlesports. We've grown exponentially, offering weekly paddling sessions in 51 locations in 31 states. We’ve placed an increasing emphasis on the development of leadership through clinics all over the US teaching veterans the necessary skills to become leaders in their respective TRR Chapters.
We are proud to be able to give back on behalf of everyone who supports Werner Paddles, in the end we all have a part in Healthy Waters.
