Summer-Long Crusade for SUP Awareness, Enlightenment Continues in Northern Rockies

(Missoula, Mont.) – Boardworks Surf, the Encinitas, Calif. maker of standup paddleboards, continues its quest to make standup paddleboarding as well-entrenched for inland peoples as it is on the coasts, and perhaps even more so than its kayak, raft, and water-ski cousins are now on the continental interior. After a highly successful run of Colorado's famous whitewater festivals, the caravan of pros and boards, dubbed the Boardworks "Show UP and Blow UP" SUP Tour has moved north to Missoula for the Montana Whitewater Championships.

Held on Brennan's Wave on the Clark Fork River in downtown Missoula, this years' Missoula Whitewater Championships is the last stop on the 2012 USFKA Tour, so the energy and athleticism will be sky high. Adding another layer of fun and adrenaline, the SHUBU Tour, lead by SUP pros Mike Tavares and Haley Mills, will feature three days of SUP events and activities, including free SUP demos and whitewater SUP clinics.

With a caravan of pros and boards motoring from event to event—from Alabama, to North Carolina, to Virginia, Colorado, Montana, Idaho. Utah…and back —the 13-city Boardworks "Show UP and Blow UP" SUP Tour is a well-orchestrated cadre of boardshort-clad SUP activists spreading the word like missionaries bringing the wonders of civilization to needy natives.

Currently one of the world's fastest growing sports, SUP has been riding a swell of popularity since the post-Polynesian renaissance about a decade ago. According to the Outdoor Industry Association, more people tried standup paddleboarding for the first time in 2010 than tried any other outdoor activity. It's not surprising that SUP appeals to all ages and stages, everyone from casual recreationalists to fitness enthusiasts to big wave riders.

Participants will get a unique chance to try Boardworks latest flat-water and river SUP board and paddle designs, including the hugely popular Multi Chamber Inflatable Technology, or MCIT, the most stable inflatable whitewater SUP designed by Salida, Colo.-based Badfish SUP.
