Dreams are what keep us going. They are what we aim towards, what we work for and what we look forward to. That's why we created the Maui Dream Retreat: four days of paddling instruction on the one of the most beautiful islands in Hawaii with the top teachers on the planet open to paddlers of intermediate skill level.
SUP Magazine and the world's best standup paddle athletes--including Connor Baxter, Suzie Cooney, Zane Schweitzer and Jeremy Riggs are meeting up in Maui in April 2018. We'll be staying at the luxurious Lumeria Maui on the island's north shore and learning all we can about paddling in the Hawaiian islands. We’ll be doing daily Maliko Runs (conditions depending), learning secret techniques, honing our fitness and eating fresh and healthy. And we want you to join us.
TRIP GUIDES AND ATHLETES:
Connor Baxter is the fastest man in standup paddling. The Maui local is known for winning the biggest races around the world (Molokai 2 Oahu, Pacific Paddle Games, Battle of the Paddle). And no one is faster on the Maliko Run on Maui’s north shore. He’s won the OluKai Ho’olaule’a five times. His intimate knowledge of this stretch of coast, laid-back demeanor and desire to share SUP are a perfect match for the Maui Dream Retreat.
Zane Schweitzer is the smiling face of performance standup paddling, from progressive SUP surfing to elite racing to foiling. The Maui waterman has won competitions the world over and is the two-time champion of the Red Bull Ultimate Waterman. Schweitzer’s true aloha spirit is contagious. He’ll regale you with tales from his travels around the world and then take you out to his home break for an intricate SUP surf lesson. We’re happy to welcome him back to Maui Dream Retreat for his second year.
Suzie Cooney is one of SUP’s leading instructors, coaching both elite paddlers at the top of the sport to weekend warriors who want to take their paddling game to the next level. The author of “How to Increase your Standup Paddling Performance,” Cooney’s approachable, effective and understandable teaching style has been a favorite of the past two Maui Dream Retreats and we’re happy to welcome her back for another round!
Jeremy Riggs is a legend in the downwind community. A Maui transplant by way of North Carolina, Riggs spends as much time on the Maliko Run as any paddler on the planet. The humble, soft-spoken paddler lets his smooth, efficient paddling do the talking--unless he's doing the teaching. He started coaching what would become some of Maui's most famous paddlers years ago when they were still young and has developed a knowledgeable and approachable style that will help any paddler.
