The Utah racing game just took another step forward. Exhibit A? The Second Annual H2O Overdrive SUP CUP Series kicks off July 30th and 31st on Jordanelle Resevoir and the Weber River outside Park City, Utah. The cup includes a "Pro Race," the "Ghost Town Paddle," and the "Luck of the Draw Relay," all on Saturday. The first Weber River SUP Cross, presented by Boardsworks, will be held Sunday. Here's a quick preview of the weekend:

The Pro Race

Competitors face a 5-mile course with a men's 14' division and a women's 12'6" division. Participants will be competing for a $5,000 cash purse, split equally between top men and women competitors. Racers will also be competing for an opportunity to race in Sunday's Weber River SUP Cross. The Pro race is part of the WPA national race series and competitors can qualify for the Hennessey's WPA World Championships in September 2011.

The Ghost Town Paddle

This is an open age group race (12'6", 14'and unlimited). The course will be a four-mile loop on Jordanelle Resevoir, where paddlers will race above, Keetly, a ghost town submerged below the man-made lake.

Luck of the Draw Relay

All participants' names will be dropped into a bucket and Elite racers will choose two names to complete their relay teams. "The relay is focused on fun more than anything," says event director Randy Olshen.

Weber River SUP Cross

On Sunday, the top 20 males and top 5 females from the Pro Race will be invited to compete in the Weber River SUP Cross. Other experienced river racers will also be invited to compete with a maximum of 50 competitors that will run in heats of four. The race will entail a buoy course and a crossing over the furious Taggart Falls that will test the skills of top SUP racers and river paddlers.

All participants are invited to a party on Saturday night at Newpark Resort with catering by Maxwell's and a cash bar. The party consists of a cocktail hour with surprises and a buffet dinner. The night includes the world premiere of "StandUp the Movie," starring local racer John Becker. "American Hitman," will provide the musical entertainment.
