Erik Aeder is a Maui-based legend in ocean and watersports photography. He was first published in 1971 and has continued a career in photographing ocean sports ever since. Aeder had a knack for travel starting from an early age, he was one of the first photographers to document surfing in the exotic outer islands of Indonesia, Easter Island and early views of Micronesia and South America. He was working extensively with top ocean athletes on Maui when they began tow surfing the break at Peahi, which became commercially known as Jaws. Aeder was also among the first photographers to shoot the sport of kite surfing on Maui and worked with the pioneers of foilboarding and SUP surfing.
Aeder's won several awards for his work and currently lives on Maui with his wife Bonni and daughter, Allegra, while his son Xander is pursuing his goals and raising his family in California. He continues to shoot the waves of Maui and the various sports that have developed there as well as his creative line of underwater women that he has developed for the past 20 years. Aeder's passion is the water and it shows in his varied line of colorful images.
