Let the countdown begin.

With the 2018 Pacific Paddle Games presented by Salt Life only a week away, athletes from around the world are making their final preparations for the biggest race of the year. But while the Pro races always generate a lot of buzz, the PPGs will offer plenty of excitement for the Open racers too. From team relays to afterparties, we detail three exciting opportunities that you may not have known about #PPG2018.

Team Relay Race with Your Friends

SUP is generally thought of as an individual sport. And while most of the races at #PPG2018 adhere to this notion, there’s one race that’s all about teamwork. Get ready for the Team Relay.

With four paddlers on each team, this race gives you an opportunity to join forces with your friends and compete together on paddling’s biggest stage at Doheny State Beach. The race consists of each teammate doing one lap on a course that runs out and back through the surf. And while racing solo is fun, cheering on your teammates and compete alongside the best in the business adds a whole new level of excitement to the experience.

Bonus Final Round in Open Technical

As every athlete is aware, setting a goal is an excellent way to stay on track and perform at a high level. In that vein, #PPG2018 has added some extra incentive for Open competitors in the Technical races. The top 16 finishers in both the Men’s and Women’s Open Technical race will advance to an Open Technical Final slated to be held right before the Pro Technical Races are run.

This exciting opportunity gives Open paddlers a chance to not only qualify for an additional race, but one that will be held under the brightest spotlight on paddling’s biggest stage. And with a crowd of people cheering them on from the shoreline of Doheny State Beach, it’s sure to be a race experience you won’t find anywhere else.

You’re Invited to the #PPG2018 After-Party

For the first time in Pacific Paddle Games’ history, the festivities won’t conclude once the final trophy is hoisted. This year, we will be hosting a huge After-Party for the pros, industry members, and most importantly — everyday paddlers like you! For those who have signed up to race at #PPG2018, they will have free admission to the After-Party that will include a brief SUP Awards presentation, live music from Flock of 80s, and complimentary food and libations.

For those not competing, they are also invited to join the revelry with tickets for $25 pre-sale and $35 at the door. It’s a unique opportunity to see the pros outside of competition, make new friends and celebrate our great sport under the stars at Doheny State Beach.
