SUP: What is different about all-women’s retreats?
CASI RYNKOWSKI: Women’s adventures are our specialty. Anna and I have been crafting these trips for many years now and our adventures all have a common theme—women searching for their tribe, their people. We love bringing together like-minded women with shared passions, who want a supportive group to build confidence and explore. Adding SUP retreats were a natural progression. Camp Samata in Hawaii was the first SUP retreat we guided together.

How long have you been doing women’s retreat and what have you learned?
I’ve been guiding women’s specific adventure trips for six years and crafting group adventure trips on land and water for eight. Anna has over a decade of women’s specific adventure trips under her belt, including yoga retreats and other types of health and wellness events.

The one thing Anna and I realized right out of the gate was that our working relationship was imperative to the success of the camp and the camper’s experience. Fortunately, our personalities compliment each other whereas I’m high energy, while Anna is calming. It’s the yin-yang relationship which we play off of throughout the week depending on the experience.

What do participants say about the benefits of these trips being exclusively for women?
The number one comment given is that they love the all-women supportive environment, the diversity of the women participating and how much they learn from each other as well as from each adventure.

For beginner paddlers, why is Camp Bajan Blue a great opportunity to learn?
Camp Bajan Blue is a “come as you are” camp.  There are no age, fitness or skill set requirements. The progression format allows any level of paddler to grow quickly.

Day one always starts out with SUP 101 or skills building. From there, daily paddle adventures grow, building on the previous day’s experience with downwinding being our big adventure at the end of the week.

It’s not all about paddling either. There is daily yoga, health and wellness discussions, women’s conversation and of course, lots of laughing and bonding time.
