Standup paddling’s top up-and-coming youth athletes came out to Huntington Beach, Calif. on Sunday, May 5, for the Performance Paddling Junior Pro and Youth SUP Fiesta. Young competitors from across the nation, Hawaii, and Australia crowded Bolsa Chica State Beach to participate in the first event of its kind.

The Junior Pro Youth and SUP Fiesta opened a new door for our sport, as it was standup paddling’s first all-youth event, as well as the first junior pro SUP event to-date. Competitors ranged from under eight years old up to age 17, with the event offering competitive activities for all, including a paddlesurfing contest and a technical sprint race through the surf, as well as a report card improvement contest and Ocean Minded essay contest. Spectators witnessed standout performances throughout the day from the nearly 60 groms that turned out to paddle, push the sport, and share the SUP stoke.
