SUP Rock Hopping in Central California

One of the more rugged sub-sports in the standup paddling world is called rock hopping – the technique of riding a wave or whitewash through a precarious gap between two rocks. Now let us be clear, this is not an activity for beginners and full safety gear is required at all times.

In this radical edit, two experienced paddlers go on a wild rock hopping adventure in central California’s notoriously rugged coastline. Large swells, cold water, and sharp rocks make this an activity reserved for the wild at heart. There are lots of thrills and plenty of spills, but SUP rock hopping is undoubtedly one of the gnarliest ways to paddle.
