Video | SUPing With Humpback Whales | Avila Beach, CA

‘Tis the feeding season for Humpback Whales off the California coast. They’ve migrated up from their winter calving and mating areas off the Mexican coastline to indulge in the abundant krill, anchovy and sardine populations found off Central California. They’ll stay here till around December, then head back south in traditional Humpback fashion.

A few days ago, a pod of about 20 Humpbacks pit-stopped between the Avila Beach and Cal Poly piers for a friendly feeding session shared with a drone and a few lucky SUPers. This breathtaking footage is yet another testament to the awesome capabilities of SUP.
